With the spotlight being shone on the many instances of police brutality, community unrest, college going statistics, and more, it is critical that young men—our emerging “family” leaders—have enhanced opportunities to engage with and be supported by other men and peers with the goal to create an atmosphere of success; a community that goes beyond emphasizing survival, and provides the space that thriving—reaching one’s full potential—is not a wish but a reality. The Eta Theta Lambda Mentoring Program embraces that potential reality and is designed to help make it so. |
The Black Lives Matter -- Black Men Thrive Mentoring and Literacy Program builds upon the ETL family's tradition of engaging young men in mentoring activities. These activities are always steeped in: 1. Leadership Development 2. Academic Enhancement 3. Self-Expression 4. Literacy 5. Oracy |
| Over the course of about 8 virtual sessions participants will read Not so Pure and Simple by Lamar Giles. Based upon the readings, anchoring themes have been developed to guide our small group discussions. The themes are broad enough for diverse application to the challenges, aspirations, and issues that influence our daily lives. We anticipate lively discussions led by participants and facilitated by mentors. At the end of 8 weeks we will reset with a new text and a new set of themes. |
